AbouT LINDSAY

As a former high school counselor and current clinician, I have 15 years experience helping teens and adults navigate stress, anxiety, low self esteem, depression and other mental health issues. I'm passionate about helping teens and adults decrease negative symptoms while empowering them to face difficult situations and apply healthy coping strategies.

I take connection with my clients seriously. I work hard to build trust. When working with my teen clients, I know how important it can feel to just have someone hear them out. They need someone that will try to see things from their perspective and can empathize with their experience. Feeling validated in therapy can build strong rapport and give clients the courage to make healthy and effective changes.

Emotions can be intense and hard to understand, especially during the teen years. We will work together to understand your emotions and regulate them, giving a feeling of control and balance. We will build strong self-esteem that can help to empower you to navigate through tough situations and maintain healthy relationships.

When I work with young adults, I focus a lot on identity, purpose, and transition. Many of my young adult clients are grappling with graduating from college and entering the working world. I provide therapy for life transitions. They’re figuring out where they fit in and who they are. Young adults want to be taken seriously. Their negative thoughts and self-doubt start creeping in. I’m here to help them navigate those thoughts and the feelings that come with them. I provide coping skills to deal with the overwhelm of being a young adult.

Life can be heavy and overwhelming at times and many of my adult clients struggle with finding time for self care and feeling present when their minds are cluttered with huge to do lists. I help my adult clients learn that it is not selfish to prioritize mental health and self care in order to live a life that is more fulfilling and enjoyable.

What You Can Expect When You Work With Me

I know that therapy can be scary for people who haven’t done it before. Maybe you’ve cycled through your fair share of therapists and you’re skeptical about how I can help you.

That’s why I make sure I tailor your treatment plan to your unique needs. I’ve been doing this for a while, with extensive training in several different types of therapy and I provide quality therapy for teens and adults. We’ll dive right into exploring what brought you to therapy in the first place. We will build a strong therapeutic relationship. I aim to give you a space in the week where you can exhale, practice self-care, and feel empowered to face whatever the week ahead will bring.

I help you learn and use healthy coping strategies to manage worry and anxiety, increase self-esteem, adopt healthy self-talk, heal past wounds, and engage in healthy relationships. We’ll work together to find how to balance emotional health.

My attitude is approachable, relatable, warm, and open. I use humor when appropriate because sometimes we need to laugh. You can expect therapy with a real person, not a therapist robot. I work collaboratively with you to find the right course of treatment to meet your needs.

I mostly work within a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework. This means that I’m solution-focused and goal-oriented. We tackle those stubborn negative thoughts that impact your mood and behavior, making it hard to function. I provide you with tools and coping skills you can put into action to take the steps you need to live your best life.

I’m also influenced by and trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). This type of therapy is great for people struggling with strong emotions and overwhelming thoughts and feelings. It helps with emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

I use mindfulness in my practice. If you’re anxious, you’re worried about what hasn’t happened yet. If you’re depressed, you’re running through things that have happened in the past. Either way, you’re not in the moment and can’t enjoy life. We’ll practice mindfulness to help you get and stay in the present moment.

Many of my clients have experienced trauma. When something out of the ordinary happens and you are traumatized by an overwhelming event, your natural coping mechanism can become overloaded. This can lead to disturbing experiences becoming frozen in your brain or being unprocessed. These unprocessed memories can trigger negative responses and can be painful and confusing.

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help create the connections between your brain’s memory network and process the traumatic memories in a very natural way. This type of therapy is a great evidence based treatment when talk therapy can only take you so far and you are looking for a deeper level change and healing.

I am a level 2 trained EMDR therapist. EMDR therapy can successfully treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. It can also be used to treat chronic negative self talk, stress, phobias, sleep issues, complicated grief, low self-esteem, and performance anxiety.
